Just use enhanced vanilla trees. I've tried everything many times each. I always go back to EVT, and for it I recommend the main file, and alternative tree file, that's it. Run ultra dyndolod and grab shizofs fps stabilizer. It may be an unpopular opinion around here, but 3D trees is my jam.

There are great looking, performance expensive trees on many Discord Channels and fast trees on the Nexus. But I missed a tree mod that tried to combine both worlds. I measured an impact of 5 FPS with a disabled FPS limit on my GTX.

This is a beautiful mod but (in addition to the performance question others have brought up) OP asked to "keep the Skyrim feeling," and this mod does not do that.. Removing the sight-blocking branches of Bethesda's enormous ambiguous conifer trees (and replacing them with short, skinny pines and deciduous trees) while adding tons of small saplings without collision and stumps/logs with.
